13 September 2013
Digi-Sign Certification Services Limited held the latest e-Banking Security Seminar, as a series of informative sessions featuring topical e-banking security issues and related development, at the Regal Hotel on 13 September 2013. The objective of this seminar entitled "Digital Signature deployment for e-Cheque initiative" was to address different aspects of issues (including technical, operational and legal) in implementing digital signatures in the e-Cheque project. The seminar attracted more than a hundred attendees from the banking industry as well as representatives from the relevant Government authorities and agents. The attendees showed keen interests with the seminar contents which they found helpful for their implementation planning of the e-Cheque project.
As a key initiative in the banking industry, e-Cheque will offer tremendous benefits to all parties involved, eliminating the cumbersome manual processing of physical cheques; thus saving time and costs. To ensure the legitimacy of e-cheques, it is recommended that the e-cheques should be affixed with digital signatures generated by recognized digital certificates issued by a recognized certification authority. Being a major recognized certification authority, Digi-Sign has been actively working with the relevant stake holders and banks on identifying technical impediments / requirements as well as legal / liability issues relating to the deployment of digital certificates for the e-Cheque project.
Digi-Sign speakers shared such related issues and covered the following areas at the seminar:
- Outline of the proposed operating model of e-cheque
- Legal & liability issues on employing digital certificate for e-cheque
- Usages and operations of digital certificate for e-cheque
- Technical design to deploy digital certificate for e-cheuqe
- System demonstrations: Issuing and redeeming e-cheque
